My apologies Caledonia. I got sent unexpectedly to Germany for a few weeks, and trying to coordinate with my brothers schedule in Colorado for comms was going to be difficult. I'll hop back on here when stateside again (late May).

I leave for vacation this week, and won't be back until June 22. After that, I would be glad to join Caledonia for a match against the Banfords.

Back in country for a while, so Banford Brothers would be happy to play a 2V2 if anyone is interested!

what are the advantages of massing your artillery, miles in front of your infantry, wholly unsupported, like lambs . That's what I would like to know. I happen to know a player who does it every game and loses. But I'm not naming anyone

Default artillery

I have been playing with the best way to use artillery and have had some successes and some failures. artillery seems to be best utilized with small cavalry or infantry detachments and usually (always) with a defensive command even if used offensively.

1. a cloud of artillery can be used to break up infantry formations attacking a main line of defense. making the opponent use up movement points and the purpose of the attack a failure.

2. artillery can be used as a rear guard to delay a pursuing enemy when a days turn can make a big difference.

3. Attrition is often a motivation.

4. Artillery used to completely surround infantry or cavalry can immobilize a much superior force.

However, anytime artillery is used without the support of either of the other two arms, they are sacrificial lambs. it may be they are simply a distraction away from the true intentions of the enemy.
